The writer of the Game of Thrones spinoff about violent Westeros moves forward with Batman 2

Aegon’s Conquest, an HBO spinoff based on Game of Thrones, is progressing with the addition of a writer. HBO was searching for ways to expand the Game of Thrones universe on television even before the popular fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin’s books ended.

Just one offshoot, House of the Dragon, has succeeded thus far. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the second spinoff series in the franchise, is expected to start filming later this year.

Aegon’s Conquest has reportedly moved into a new phase of development with the addition of a writer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The fantasy series now has Mattson Tomlin on board, who co-wrote the next DC film, The Batman Part II.

According to insiders close to the project, the new program is reportedly going “back to basics” with the magical universe that Martin originally developed.

How Aegon’s Conquest Fits Into the Timeline of Game of Thrones?

There have been numerous ideas to expand upon the realm of Westeros and its neighbouring nations set at different periods in George R. R. Martin’s wide fantasy history ever since the critically successful eight-season run of Game of Thrones concluded.

While House of Dragon would only travel back 172 years before the birth of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen, the unaired pilot, which was shot under the project title Bloodmoon, would take place in the renowned Age of Heroes, some 10,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

This new prequel series, which looks to be carrying on the tradition of transporting viewers further back in time, will centre on the conquest of Aegon Targaryen, which saw the kingdoms of Westeros united under his banner.

It will provide a preview of the full might of House Targaryen before its unavoidable decline, as the first Targaryen conquest occurred some 100 years before House of the Dragon.

Aegon the First crushed his competitors in a bloody campaign that saw the fall of several resolute noble houses, with the help of his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya as well as three dragons.

Aegon’s Conquest, which will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on Westero’s history, is ideally positioned to offer one of the cruellest and most horrific looks into a popular fantasy realm already known for its harshness.
