Darkness Distortion Launches Worldwide in Fall 2024, Cast Includes Kana Ichinose and Rie Takahashi

Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion, the latest instalment in the Corpse Party horror game series, will launch worldwide on Switch, PS4, and PC this fall.

An announcement trailer (labelled as a teaser trailer in the Japanese version) for Darkness Distortion was also released and contains glimpses of the characters and their non-chibi 3D models. There’s also a promotional visual with the tagline “CAN’T ESCAPE the PARTY,” an “Ayame no Omajinai” (Ayame’s Good Luck Charm) trailer, and a live-action trailer.

The plot as described by the announcement trailer’s video description is:

Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion follows three high school friends; Haruka Nanami, Nemu Takanashi, and Maria Hitsugi, as they explore the Amare Est Vivere Hospital, testing a local urban legend as the streamer Nemu seeks to boost her subscriber count. Unfortunately for the three girls, the legend of “Ayame’s Mercy” is true, and they trigger a decades-old curse that sends them into a dark realm. Together they must avoid the vengeful spirit of Ayame Kirishima and other horrors from the hospital’s dark past as they search for a way to dispel Ayame’s curse once and for all.

Kana Ichinose, Rie Takahashi, and Emiri Suyama are the respective voice actors for Haruka, Nemu, and Maria.

A longer description received by Gematsu says that Darkness Distortion will have binaural audio, third- and first-person perspectives for the exploration sections, six chapters, eight extra scenarios, and “plenty of Wrong Ends.” It is also described as a “perfect entry point for new horror buffs.”

XSEEDgames is publishing Darkness Distortion in North America, while Marvellous Europe is handling the European distribution. XSEEDgames’ Twitter account revealed a special “Ayame’s Mercy” Edition of the game for Switch and PS4 that includes a physical game copy, a Metal Medical Kit Case, a 64-page art book, a “Save Yourself” LED Blue Candle, an “Ayame’s Mercy” lenticular art card, an “Evidence Kit” with journal entries, and more. Gematsu reports that this edition will cost US$79.99, while the standard physical edition is US$49.99.

While the official announcements only mention a fall release window, the game’s website has an August 28 date listed. Another difference is that the website lists GOG and Humble Store in addition to Steam as the PC storefronts.

The previous game in the series was Corpse Party: Blood Drive, which was first released in Japan in 2014. The first Corpse Party game was released in 1998 for the PC-98. The games have inspired OVAs, manga, and a live-action movie.
