Detective Conan’s Latest Film Rakes In 960 Million Yen In Record Opening Day

Detective Conan’s 27th movie, called Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Signpost, has reached an impressive goal.

It’s now the most popular anime movie opener of 2024! On its very first day, it made an amazing 960 million yen and was watched by over 630,000 people.

This news was shared by the distributor Toho during a special event at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya in Tokyo on April 13, 2024. The movie came out on April 12, 2024, in 515 theaters all over Japan.

It did even better than the 26th movie’s opening day. That movie was the first in the series to make over 10 billion yen. The 27th movie had a big 112% increase in its opening day numbers.

The voice cast of the movie, like Minami Takayama, who voices Conan Edogawa, and Kappei Yamaguchi, who voices Kaito Kid, was totally amazed by the movie’s incredible opening.

Before this, the record for the highest opening day earnings in 2024 was held by Haikyu!! The Movie: Decisive Battle At The Garbage Dump, making 890 million yen on its first day.

The all-time highest opening day earnings for a movie released in Japan are still held by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Mugen Train, standing at 1.2 billion yen.

The 26th movie, Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine, came out on April 14, 2023, and made history. It became the first movie in the series to earn a whopping 10,304,483,700 billion yen at the box office.

There have been 27 movies made from the Case Closed series. They were animated by TMS Entertainment and made by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation, Nippon Television, ShoPro, and Toho. Here’s who directed each set:

  • The first seven were directed by Kenji Kodama.
  • Movies 8 to 14 were directed by Yasuichiro Yamamoto.
  • Movies 15 to 21 were directed by Kobun Shizuno.
  • Movie 22 was directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa.
  • Movies 23 and 24 were directed by Chika Nagaoka.
  • Movie 25 was directed by Susumu Mitsunaka.

Detective Conan is a Japanese detective manga series created by Gosho Aoyama. It’s been running in Shogakukan’s manga magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday since January 1994.

As of September 2022, the series has been collected into 102 tankobon volumes. Because of legal issues with the name Detective Conan, the English versions released by Funimation and Viz were renamed to Case Closed.

The anime version of Case Closed is made by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and TMS Entertainment. It first premiered on January 8, 1996, in Japan. Since then, it has aired over 1000 episodes, making it the fifteenth longest anime series up to now.
