Japanese Fans Criticize Jujutsu Kaisen for Repetitive and Unexciting Storytelling

Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen are currently split between two camps: those who support the series as it stands and those who are growing increasingly frustrated with its direction, even going so far as to dub it “Sukuna Kaisen.”

The crux of the issue lies in the final arc, which was anticipated to be the pinnacle of the series but has instead become somewhat predictable and repetitive.

Initially, fans were thrilled at the prospect of witnessing the ultimate showdown between Satoru Gojo and Ryomen Sukuna, the two most powerful sorcerers in the show.

However, author Gege Akutami seems to have made Sukuna nearly invincible, transforming him into a character seemingly draped in plot armor.

As a result, Sukuna effortlessly emerges victorious from every challenge thrown his way, leaving a trail of defeated characters in his wake. This recurring pattern has left fans feeling weary of the predictable narrative.

Criticism regarding this matter gained traction on the Japanese social media platform Yaraon, sparked by a tweet from @enushi_saba that articulated the frustrations of many fans.

The tweet highlighted the lack of strategic planning by the protagonists despite having ample time to prepare for the battle against Sukuna. Instead of employing a calculated approach, characters recklessly engage Sukuna in combat, often resulting in their demise. Even Satoru Gojo, revered as the strongest sorcerer, falls victim to this lack of foresight.

The tweet resonated with a significant portion of the fanbase, garnering millions of impressions and likes. Subsequent discussions on forums and overseas platforms revealed a growing discontent among fans, with some expressing their decision to drop the series altogether.

Yaraon bloggers echoed these sentiments, expressing disappointment in Gege Akutami’s failure to devise a concrete plan for defeating Sukuna.

They lamented the absence of strategic thinking among the characters, attributing the prolonged storyline to their repetitive one-on-one battles against Sukuna. Some even drew parallels to the Cell arc in Dragon Ball, criticizing the narrative’s failure to capitalize on the characters’ preparation time.

Speculation abounds regarding the series’ future direction, with some fans wondering if Akutami will take inspiration from Demon Slayer and orchestrate a unified attack against Sukuna. However, such discussions remain speculative, and fans are divided on whether such a plot development would be beneficial or derivative.

Despite the criticisms levied against Jujutsu Kaisen, fans remain invested in its outcome, hoping for a resolution that will justify their continued support of the series.
