Phillips Sisters Opens up About Father’s ‘Dark Side’ Amid Allegations

In a recent interview on her sister Chynna’s YouTube channel, actress Mackenzie Phillips talked about her relationship with her father, John Phillips, the frontman of the Mamas & the Papas.

Billy Baldwin’s wife, Chynna, revealed her conflicting feelings about their father, calling him “one of my favorite people in the whole wide world” but also admitting to having a “dark” side.

She spoke of how much she enjoyed his laugh but also disclosed that he had a “monster” side to him, characterizing him as erratic and sinister. Mackenzie agreed, saying her father was not without his dark side.

Mackenzie Phillips made a shocking revelation via her memoir

Mackenzie made a startling confession in her 2009 memoir, “High on Arrival,” when she claimed that, the night before she married Jeff Sessler when she was 19, her father had sexually assaulted her.

She added that while she struggled with drug addiction, she had a consensual sexual relationship with her father for almost ten years.

Mackenzie acknowledged that her father was a complicated person and that she had received backlash and internet harassment for accepting forgiveness.

She explained that forgiveness is not an approval of the deeds being pardoned but rather a personal act meant for her well-being. The substance abuse counselor stressed that forgiveness does not mean agreement or approval with the actions being forgiven.

She had to go through rehabilitation 10 or 11 times in 30 years before she was able to achieve sobriety. Despite the situation’s complexity, she declared that she had found peace.

Mackenzie’s shocking revelation caused quite a stir, but she and Baldwin were able to reconcile completely despite it. Though the family was eventually able to reunite, the former actress acknowledged that the process took a long time.

When talking about the difficult circumstances of their childhood, Mackenzie admitted to having a persistent sense of guilt.

Actor Billy Baldwin’s wife, Chynna, assured Mackenzie that she would always be there for her, highlighting how true and wholehearted her support was for Mackenzie.

Even though the news hurt everyone, Chynna maintained her faith in Mackenzie and expressed pride in her for bravely sharing her story.

Wilson Phillips’ vocalist then informed her sister that they are a part of one of the “most dysfunctional Hollywood families.” Their half-sister Bijou Phillips, who was convicted of rape and a Scientologist, recently filed for divorce from Danny Masterson as more proof of this.

Mackenzie wrote in her memoir that the night before she married Jeff Sessler at the age of 19, she was allegedly assaulted by her father, John.

The musician John died in March of 2001.
