Trevor Lawrence’s Contract Talks: Balancing Focus and Future

Trevor Lawrence, now in his fourth year in the league, finds himself eligible to negotiate an extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team that drafted him as the No. 1 pick.

Currently under contract through 2024, Lawrence is poised to have his fifth-year option likely picked up by the Jaguars later this offseason, keeping him under team control through 2025. Such extensions are common during this phase of a franchise quarterback’s career, ensuring stability and continuity for the team.

Regarding his extension eligibility, Lawrence acknowledged ongoing discussions but emphasized that his primary focus remains on his performance on the field. “There’s definitely been some conversations,” Lawrence stated, ”

As far as where that’s at now, it’s not really my focus. I’d love to, obviously, be a Jag for as long as possible. We love it here, and I love where we’re headed as an organization. I feel like I’m just getting better every year. My best ball is definitely ahead of me. So, from that standpoint, obviously, yeah, that would be great.”

Trevor Lawrence is Open to a Contract Extension but Remains Focused on On-Field Performance

Despite the potential for a contract extension, Lawrence remains steadfast in his approach to the game. He highlighted that his responsibility to the team and his role on the field remain unchanged regardless of his contract status. “But, like you said,” Lawrence continued.

“it’s going into my fourth year, it’s not like this is necessarily going to be my last season. There’s a lot that could happen. So, not really my focus right now. At the end of the day, my job isn’t going to change whether I get extended or not before this season.

“My job is to go win games and to be the best I can be for this team so we can have a chance to win a Super Bowl. Even if I get the contract extension, that’s still my job.”

While Trevor Lawrence remains focused on his on-field preparations for the upcoming season, he expressed openness to finalizing a contract extension.

Trevor Lawrence Acknowledges Desire for Contract Extension Amidst Focus on Improvement

“I can’t lie, obviously, it would be nice to have that done and feel good about it,” he acknowledged. “But, no, it’s not really the focus right now. I know where we’re at, I know where we’re heading, and I know what I have to do. There’s some improvements that I have to make going forward.”

Lawrence’s record stands at 20-30 as a starter in his first three regular seasons, including an 8-8 record in his 16 starts last year. The 2023 season marked a challenging period in Lawrence’s tenure, with the Jaguars experiencing a downturn, losing five of their last six games.

This resulted in their elimination from playoff contention and allowed the Texans to secure the AFC South title. Lawrence himself faced injury challenges during this late-season stretch.

Despite these setbacks, Lawrence has showcased glimpses of his immense potential, which had him touted as one of the top prospects in recent memory during his time at Clemson. It appears inevitable that he will receive an extension from the Jaguars, though the timing of such an agreement remains uncertain and will be closely monitored in the coming months.
