Netflix and Crunchyroll both announced that it will stream the sci-fi adventure TV anime series DAN DA DAN (also known as Dandadan) worldwide in October 2024. Crunchyroll specifies that it will stream the anime worldwide, excluding Asia.
Both companies released the anime’s main trailers on its respective YouTube channels.
Fuuga Yamashiro (Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! co-assistant director) is directing the anime series, with Hiroshi Seko (Chainsaw Man) as series screenwriter, Naoyuki Onda (MF Ghost and Inuyashiki) as character designer, Yoshimichi Kameda (Mob Psycho character designer) as alien and yokai designer, and Kensuke Ushio (Tengoku-Daimakyo, The Heike Story) as music composer. Science SARU is in charge of the animation production.
Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast includes:
- • Shion Wakayama as Momo
- • Natsuki Hanae as Okarun
- • Mayumi Tanaka as Turbo Granny
- • Kazuya Nakai as Serpoians
The anime is based on Yukinobu Tatsu’s sci-fi occult manga series, which began serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform on April 6, 2021. Thirteen tankoubon volumes have been released as of January 2024, with a 14th volume due out in April 2024. Viz Media releases the manga in English in print and digital format in North America. Crunchyroll has also published the print version of the manga in France and Germany since 2022 and 2023.
Crunchyroll describes the official synopsis of DAN DA DAN as:
This is a story about Momo, a high school girl who comes from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult fanatic. After Momo rescues Okarun from being bullied, they begin talking. However, an argument ensues between them since Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens exist, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts exist.
To prove to each other what they believe in is real, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital where a UFO has been spotted and Okarun goes to a tunnel rumored to be haunted. To their surprise, they each encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that transcend comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome these new dangers! Their fateful love begins as well!?
